ounded in 2021, Select Stays began in the wake of recent global challenges to help homeowners maximize their rental income. What started small quickly grew thanks to our focus on exceptional service, smart systems, and a passionate local team. Today, we specialize in select properties across San Diego, offering guests unique, high-quality stays while sharing the city we love. Our mission is simple: deliver expert hospitality and unforgettable experiences for every guest who walks through the door.

Jay Ullrich

Co-Founder & Chief Operations Officer As Chief Operations Officer, Jay Ullrich spearheaded the operational systems that power Select Stays today. With a background in civil engineering and a degree from Cal Poly SLO, Jay brought a process-driven mindset to the short-term rental world, automating and optimizing large portions of the company’s operations. Through strategic partnerships and a focus on efficiency, he’s helped Select Stays scale quickly while maintaining a high standard of service for every guest. Outside of work, Jay enjoys life in San Diego with his wife and their dog, George, and stays active through soccer, rock climbing, and backpacking.

Sam Mayes

Co-Founder & Chief Financial Officer As Co-Founder and Chief Financial Officer, Sam Mayes leads Select Stays’ financial strategy and customer relations. With expertise in tax and legal matters, Sam ensures the company operates on a solid foundation while also excelling in human resources—hiring the right people and building a talented, passionate team. Beyond the numbers, Sam plays a key role in shaping the guest and owner experience, making sure Select Stays delivers on its promise of quality and professionalism. When he’s not managing the financial side of the business, Sam enjoys life in San Diego, staying active through hiking, rock climbing, and pickleball.
